Cleveland Bay Horses

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

The Cleveland Bay horse is Britain’s Oldest breed of horse and still used by HRH Queen Elizabeth II, today there are only 500 purebred Cleveland Bays in the world, 200 in North America. The Cleveland Bay is always bay in color and excels in many disciplines including Dressage, hunters, jumpers, and eventing. They are known for their intelligence, sensible temperment and strong character. They have plenty of bone and substance making them hardy and long-lived.

Cleveland Bays have been crossed with thoroughbreds, and other warmbloods to create excellent sport horses. There are many breeds that show Cleveland Bay influence including Irish Draughts, Oldenburgs, Hanoverians, and several other warmbloods.
