Sweetwater Farms was established on Cape Cod by us in 1979, in order to achieve our dreams of owning, breeding and competing with Appaloosa horses of Quality, Color and Class. Sweetwater Farms is the home, birthplace & breeders of Multiple World & National Champion Appaloosa Show Horses, in a variety of disciplines. ______________________________________________________________________________ For decades our vision/mission with regard to our Appaloosa breeding program has been, and continues to be, that of being dedicated to improving the Appaloosa breed, by selecting crosses of proven stallions and mares for inclusion of their genes in the Appaloosa breed's gene pool in order to produce modern Appaloosa show horses, of quality, soundness, color and class. Breeding for relative, correct conformation, physically suited to meet the specific demands of today's tough competition is a high priority and essential when selecting babies that are to go on to the show arena. The protocol we use for selecting which stallions to cross on our mares, up the odds of producing babies with natural aptitudes for what each was bred for. We begin by searching for candidates who possess the unparalleled genes of top Champion sires we feel are best suited for the pedigrees, aptitudes, produce records, mind-sets and conformation of our mares, with respect to the type of babies we seek to obtain from each cross. _______________________________________________________________________________ Correct, balanced conformation, and fluid, natural movement is a must for all of the horses we breed, as our vision is to be breed for horses destined to stay sound, healthy, happy and productive, in their respective show careers, for the long haul-something which can never be overestimated. _____________________________________________________________________________ Our pleasure hopefuls and performance prospects are out of mares and sired by stallions possessing what we believe are the best genetics and show records available for each respective cross. The offspring of these crosses represent the disciplines each was bred for with natural ability and style. _____________________________________________________________________________ Thanks to all who expressed interest in our 2008 HYPP N/N National Champion Halter Stallion and Junior Sire, THE SECRET PARDON, ApHC. The Secret Pardon, or "Diesel" as he's known by friends is a 3 X National Champion Halter Stallion and Res. National Grand Champion Halter Stallion-which he earned as a yearling against the bigger, more mature stallions. AND, The Secret Pardon is HYPP-N/N, fairly rare for a Halter Stallion of his caliber and body type. The N/N genes carried by The Secret Pardon can alleviate many expenses associated with the treatment of this particular dominant genetic "issue" and alleviate the heartache which can affect the unsuspecting owners of horses positive for HYPP. ______________________________________________________________________________ Our Appaloosa and AQHA broodmares possess the proven genetics and willing attitudes of the Champions and Producers of Champions of the various disciplines each was specifically bred for-Halter, the Pleasures, Western performance, Cutting, Cowhorse and Reining. Our mares have much to pass along to their offspring, including... intelligence coupled with athletic ability... soundness... easily trainable dispositions... charisma & presence... elegance... ample size... overall balance of frame... long, low naturally correct movement... heart... and a willingness to please. We continue striving to meet our long term goals of breeding Modern Appaloosa Champions-and naturally Versatile Appaloosa All 'Rounders-suitable for Youth, highly competitive in Non-Pro and Open-and with the conformation and temperament to stay competitive for the long haul. In light of the recent economical changes which are currently affecting so many, although the Appaloosa All 'rounder may be difficult to breed for, and cause some specialists to scratch their heads...we believe the talented All 'Rounder is well worth the effort taken to create. In our opinion, good minded, natural equine athletes are capable of being trained and cultivated to meet the demands of the real All 'rounder with class, style and consistency. And, in light of the recent economical changes currently affecting so many, although the Appaloosa All 'rounder has nearly been phased out by the specialists, it is not impossible for a good horse to compete in more than one event...causing some trainers of specialists to scratch their heads. However, although we breed for the best pleasure, halter and performance horses we can, we also believe there is a place in the market for the talented All 'Rounder.
